Alternative proteins worldwide
image

The market for alternative proteins worldwide exceeded USD 50 billion in 2020 and is estimated to grow by more than 17% (CAGR 2021 - 2027).

The plant-based segment will experience the most growth, mostly due to the shift of consumers towards vegetable-based diets to maintain a healthy and environmentally sustainable lifestyle.

This is in line with what will be the consumption trends of the coming years: an increased focus on plant-based alternatives, such as soya, legume and cereal products, which are increasingly popular in retail counters to meet growing consumer demand compared to the past.

The meat-like products segment is expected to exceed USD 40 million by 2027, growth linked to an increased awareness of the health risks associated with excessive meat consumption.

The countries in the world with the highest expected growth are North America, a market where the largest players in the analysed sector are present, and Asia, reflecting a picture in which consumers have long been accustomed to eating and drinking plant-based proteins on a daily basis as part of their food and cultural tradition.
